Tourist industry braces for a busy weekend

This weekend promises to be Big.

Big League weekend returns to Cashman Field from Mar. 15-16, and the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority said it’s expecting a sellout crowd for the games that pit the Chicago Cubs and New York Mets against each other.

As crews are getting the fields ready this week, the travel authority said the event will generate an estimated media value of $1.3 million, as the games will be broadcast on television in Chicago and will get radio airplay in Chicago and New York.

The annual major league games are a buildup to Cashman’s home team, the Las Vegas 51s, and its first home game on April 3. The team is led by manager Wally Backman.
