Attempted murder trial delayed for Mayweather bodyguard
The attempted murder trial for one of Floyd Mayweather Jr.'s bodyguards has been delayed until two weeks before the boxing champion's next fight.
Mayweather was linked to, but not charged in, the August 2009 shooting outside the Crystal Palace Skating Center on Boulder Highway near Flamingo Road.
Authorities allege that Ocie Harris shot at a BMW carrying Quincey Williams and Damein Bland as the car left the Crystal Palace parking lot. The car was hit six times. The victims allege the shooting occurred after Mayweather threatened Williams' life over insulting text messages. No one was injured.
Mayweather could be called as a witness in the trial set for April 23 before District Judge Douglas Herndon. Mayweather is scheduled to fight Miguel Cotto at the MGM Grand on May 5.
Harris faces six felonies, including attempted murder with use of a deadly weapon. The trial was set to start Monday. The delay was because of conflict with several other trials, including a capital murder case, which were set to start on Monday.
Meanwhile, a lawsuit filed by Williams and Bland against Mayweather over the incident is continuing in civil court.
Mayweather, who recently settled several misdemeanor criminal cases against him, is scheduled to serve a 90-day jail sentence starting June 1 for a battery-domestic violence conviction.
