Boy arrested after bringing gun to Centennial High School

A 16-year-old boy was arrested Monday after he brought a gun to school.

Clark County School District police arrested the boy, who was not identified, about 10:45 a.m. Monday at Centennial High School in the northwest valley.

Lt. Ken Young said the boy was carrying a loaded 9 mm handgun when officers stopped him.

The boy did not threaten anyone, and police don't think he planned to use the weapon, Young said.

It was the third gun confiscated by police in the 2011-12 school year. Police also have seized 22 BB guns or air rifles, Young said.

Last year at this time, police had seized seven guns and 11 BB guns.

The boy, who was not identified because he is a minor, will be charged with possession of a firearm on school property.
