Cliff jumper dies at Lake Mead

National Park Service rangers said Jared D. Jarvis, 28, of Las Vegas died about
1 p.m. Saturday after jumping from a cliff near Wishing Well Cove at the Lake Mead National Recreation Area.

Authorities said Jarvis' friends recovered him from the water and took him to Hemenway Harbor. He died shortly after the jump.

Alcohol and drugs were likely factors, authorities said. They said cliff jumping is inherently dangerous because of hazards such as fluctuating lake levels, uneven canyon walls and underwater objects.
