A veteran federal prosecutor has been chosen to replace U.S. Magistrate Judge Robert Johnston, who retires in December.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Nancy Koppe, who has been with the office since 2000, now must undergo background investigations by the FBI and Internal Revenue Service, Chief U.S. District Judge Robert Jones announced on Friday.
Before joining the U.S. attorney's office in Las Vegas, Koppe was an assistant district attorney in Philadelphia. She received her law degree from Cornell Law School.
Jones said the background checks should take 10 to 12 weeks.
