Former spokesman for school district faces child porn possession charges

Ray E. Willis, a former spokesman for the Clark County School District who once hosted "Inside Education" on Vegas PBS, is facing 14 felony counts of child pornography possession.

Willis, 63, of Henderson, was being held on $140,000 bail at the Henderson Detention Center on Monday. Police arrested him on Feb. 10, but the details of the charges against Willis have not been released.

Willis joined the district in 1978 as its information services coordinator, according to his résumé. Except for a three-year stint as general manager of Las Vegas public radio station KCEP-FM, Willis remained with the district through mid-1999 when he left to take a position as assistant superintendent of communications with Yonkers Public Schools in New York. Willis returned to Clark County in 2000, according to a Review-Journal report, and began working as a TV show host for Vegas PBS.

Willis developed the news magazine program "Inside Education" for Vegas PBS because of the "limited" coverage that other television stations gave to district news.

District officials said Willis never worked in a local school or as an instructor.
