Henderson man waives extradition from northwest Arizona

A Henderson man arrested in northwest Arizona on Tuesday will be returned to Clark County to be tried in connection with the slaying of his ex-girlfriend.

John David Marshall, 42, waived extradition Friday during an appearance before Mohave County Superior Court Judge Lee Jantzen in Kingman, Ariz.

"They can come get me," Marshall said after Jantzen explained his legal rights and asked whether he would willingly be returned to Nevada.

Jantzen said that Nevada authorities have 10 days to transport Marshall and that he will be held without bond in the county jail in Kingman until then.

The Mohave County medical examiner identified the slaying victim as Janet Dammeir, 28, of Henderson.

The coroner determined she died of multiple stab wounds to the neck.

Henderson police spokesman Keith Paul said one of Marshall's friends notified the department Tuesday morning that Marshall indicated he had killed a woman and was driving to Boulder City to kill himself.

Arizona authorities were notified when a cellphone trace determined Marshall had driven farther south into Mohave County.

Mohave County sheriff's deputies were looking for Marshall when they joined firefighters checking on a smoldering vehicle in the community of Golden Valley.

Court records indicate that Marshall bolted from the vehicle with a knife and ran into the desert before he was apprehended.

Marshall had blood on his clothes and on his fingertips when he was arrested, according to court documents. Dammeir's body was found in the Nissan Altima.
