Las Vegas man arrested in shooting death

A suspect in the shooting death of 35-year-old Damien Reed has been arrested, according to court documents released Tuesday.

Michael A. Moreno, 37, turned himself into Las Vegas police on Oct. 11.

He told police he acted in self-defense, firing back only after Reed shot at him outside a residence near Rancho Drive and Bonanza Road on Oct. 7, according to the arrest report. Several witness statements paint a different story, according to the report, saying Moreno was the first to fire his weapon.

Moreno was booked on a count of murder with a deadly weapon, three counts of firing a firearm into a structure and three counts of firing a weapon out of a motor vehicle.

An exchange of gunfire started after the victim scolded Moreno when he recklessly drove into a driveway in the 800 block of Dike Lane, witness statements said.

It appears the victim ran into the residence and tried to exit a back door but died of a gunshot wound to the chest while the suspect drove away, still firing shots, the police report said.
