A Las Vegas police officer charged with picking up a prostitute has been placed on paid administrative leave.

Peter Hervoyavich, a 17-year veteran of the Metropolitan Police Department, was arrested about 1 a.m. Tuesday after officers saw him pick up a woman near Paradise Road and Twain Avenue. The officers followed Hervoyavich, who was off duty, to a parking lot where he and the woman began a sex act, police said.

Hervoyavich and the woman were arrested and booked at the county jail.
