Last defendant in 2005 murder of a Palomino Club employee sentenced

The last defendant to be sentenced in the 2005 murder of a Palomino Club doorman in Las Vegas was given four to 12 years in prison Thursday.

Anabel Espindola, 38, who is the ex-girlfriend of Luis Hidalgo Jr., the all-nude club's former owner, took a deal in exchange for her testimony and, in 2008, pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter with a deadly weapon for the hit on Timothy "T.J." Hadland.

Judge Valerie Adair gave Espindola credit for having already served 1,397 days in jail, meaning she would be eligible for parole in about two months.

Hadland was found shot in the head on May 19, 2005, in the middle of an isolated road near Lake Mead. Fliers for the strip club, located on Las Vegas Boulevard near Lake Mead Boulevard, were scattered around his body.

Authorities said then-club owner Hidalgo had put out a $6,000 contract on Hadland's life after he bad-mouthed the strip club to cabdrivers, costing the business thousands of dollars in lost revenue.

Deangelo Carroll, the man authorities said orchestrated the hit, was sentenced in 2010 to 43 years to life in prison.

Kenneth Counts, 35, the man accused of shooting Hadland, in 2008 was acquitted of first-degree murder but was convicted of conspiracy to commit murder. He is serving an eight- to 20-year prison sentence.

Hidalgo Jr. and his son, Luis Hidalgo III, were sentenced to 20 years to life in prison after they were convicted of second-degree murder in 2009.

The other man who accompanied Carroll and Counts , Jayson Taoipu, cooperated with authorities and pleaded guilty to conspiracy and voluntary manslaughter. He was sentenced to five years' probation.
