Man arrested in first Las Vegas homicide in 2012

A 29-year-old man was arrested on a murder charge Monday in connection with Las Vegas' first homicide of the new year.

Police issued a statement early Monday indicating they were looking for David Monarrez as a "person of interest" in connection with the slaying of a woman whose body was found Sunday.

Clark County Detention Center records show Monarrez was arrested and booked later Monday. He was being held on a charge of murder with a deadly weapon.

Officers found the woman's body after they responded to a call to a home in the 1000 block of Bracken Avenue at 5:10 p.m. Sunday. The residence is near South Maryland Parkway and East Oakey Boulevard.

Police said the victim's body appeared to have gunshot wounds.

Homicide detectives have information indicating an altercation may have occurred before the woman was killed and that she knew her attacker .

The identity of the victim had not been released by late Monday .
