Man guilty, another sentenced in robbery

One man pleaded guilty, and another was sentenced to prison Thursday, in a robbery case involving shots fired at police officers.

Kyle Knights, 18, and Richard Sanchez, 19, were arrested about 2 a.m. on April 27 after a high-speed chase.

The car chase ended when police officers performed a maneuver to spin and stall the suspects' truck on U.S. Highway 95 near Eastern Avenue.

Authorities said Knights was driving when Sanchez, the passenger, fired about eight shots at pursuing officers. None of the officers was injured.

Sanchez pleaded guilty Thursday to attempted murder of a police officer with a deadly weapon, discharging a firearm from a vehicle, conspiracy to commit robbery and robbery with a deadly weapon.

Chief Deputy District Attorney Roy Nelson said lawyers on both sides of the case have agreed to recommend a sentence of 15 to 50 years in prison.

District Judge James Bixler is scheduled to sentence Sanchez on Dec. 8.

Knights pleaded guilty in August to conspiracy to commit robbery, robbery with a deadly weapon and failure to stop when required by police.

Bixler sentenced Knights on Thursday to a prison term of six to 20 years.

Authorities said Knights and Sanchez robbed the Rebel convenience store at 4220 E. Sahara Ave. and the Green Valley Grocery store at 5785 E. Charleston Blvd. before the chase.
