Man pleads guilty in beating death of man, 82

A 28-year-old man pleaded guilty Thursday to murder and robbery charges in the beating death of an 82-year-old Henderson man in 2009.

Mickey Thomas said he was guilty of first-degree murder, armed robbery, burglary, possession of a firearm by an ex-felon, possession of stolen property and three counts of conspiracy. In exchange, prosecutors agreed not to seek the death penalty against Thomas.

His trial was set to begin Monday. A sentencing hearing was set for Jan. 6 before District Judge Linda Bell.

Thomas was one of five people charged with the attack on Wesley Roberts July 24, 2009, at his home on Cervantes Drive, near Sunset Road and Valle Verde Drive. He died from his injuries 11 days later.

Marquell Javon McAlister, 21, and Alexis Patterson, 18, pleaded guilty Oct. 13, 2010, to charges related to Roberts' death and robbery. They are set to be sentenced Nov. 30.

Frank Estrada, 20, and Shaniece Holder, 18, are awaiting trial in the case. Holder's trial is scheduled for December and Estrada's trial is scheduled for January, court records show.
