Men face robbery, assault, burglary counts

Two men were indicted by a grand jury on charges they robbed two convenience stores in April and then shot at police during a high-speed chase on valley streets and freeways.

Kyle Knights, 18, and Richard Anthony Sanchez, 19, face more than a dozen felony counts in the indictments returned Wednesday in District Court. The charges include armed robbery, attempted murder with a deadly weapon, assault with a deadly weapon, coercion, conspiracy and burglary. An arraignment was set for May 19 before Judge James Bixler.

The two men were arrested about
2 a.m. April 27 after officers performed a Precision Intervention Technique, a PIT, to spin and stall their truck on U.S. Highway 95 near Eastern Avenue. The defendants suffered minor injuries and were treated at a local hospital.

Prosecutor Roy Nelson accused Sanchez, the passenger, of firing about eight shots at pursuing officers. None of the officers was injured.

Authorities allege the two men robbed the Rebel convenience store at 4220 E. Sahara Ave. and the Green Valley Grocery store at 5785 E. Charleston Blvd. before the chase.

Judge Linda Bell set bail for both men at $500,000 each. Both are at the Clark County Detention Center.

Sanchez's criminal history includes arrests on allegations of assault, attempted murder and drug trafficking.

Knights faces a battery with a deadly weapon charge in a separate case.
