Mother, daughter held in slaying of 73-year-old woman
The 73-year-old woman's head and clothing were spattered with blood.
Her body lay on a recliner inside her Cambridge Street apartment when Las Vegas police arrived Friday night.
Jean Greenburg, a woman who lived alone, was an avid coin collector and had no known family.
Investigators have arrested a mother and daughter in the woman's slaying.
Police accuse Lourie Rodriguez, 46, and her daughter, Amber Hall, 26, of killing Greenburg by repeatedly hitting her with a piece of wood and stabbing her with a knife.
According to a police report released Monday, Rodriguez and Hall also took Greenburg's coins.
"On Saturday morning, they went to a pawn shop together and sold the stolen coins for approximately $2,000," the report said.
The pair were arrested Sunday and booked into the Clark County Detention Center on a slew of charges, including murder with a deadly weapon, victim over 60; robbery with a deadly weapon, victim over 60; and conspiracy to commit burglary.
Police were alerted to the slaying after friends of Greenburg went to her home and found her dead. Her front door was unlocked.
Rodriguez was a friend of Greenburg, the report said.
On Thursday night, the mother and daughter went to Greenburg's apartment, near Swenson Street and Twain Avenue.
Hall's 3-month-old son was with the pair, the report said. The baby's stroller was used to hide one of the murder weapons, a piece of wood, the report said.
"Hall concealed the wood in her baby stroller, and once inside the apartment, removed the wood and hid it in Greenburg's bathroom," the report said. "Her mother asked to use the bathroom, and after she exited it, had the wood in her hand and began to beat Greenburg in the head, while she was still sitting in the recliner. Rodriguez also stabbed Greenburg in the neck with the knife."
The report said the women brought two sets of clothing to the apartment that night.
During their investigation, police tracked down items belonging to Greenburg related to coin collecting.
They also found a knife and a broken piece of wood in a trash bin near Hall's apartment.
Inside the apartment, police found $2,530 thought to be proceeds from pawning Greenburg's coins.
Police also located a grocery store surveillance video of two women who appeared to be Rodriguez and Hall trying to use Greenburg's ATM card. They were unsuccessful.
During interviews, both Rodriguez and her daughter admitted to taking part in the slaying, the police report said.
