Mother who took children from Child Haven found, charges pending

A woman who lost custody of her five children and abducted them Saturday in the parking lot of the county's shelter for abused and neglected children was located Wednesday , Las Vegas police said.

Nashana Islas, 29, was found in a North Las Vegas home about 1 a.m. after someone called Crime Stoppers .

All five children were taken into custody by the Clark County Department of Family Services.

Charges against Islas are likely to be forthcoming, police said.

Police spokeswoman Laura Meltzer said that because Islas had lost custody of her children, she could face felony charges that include kidnapping.

She said the abduction happened before a "court-ordered supervised visitation."

Family Services spokeswoman Christine Skorupski said the incident occurred about 11 a.m. Saturday in the parking lot of Child Haven , 601 N. Pecos Road.

Child Haven has facilities specifically for visits between children, their biological parents and their foster parents. The visitations are supervised.

Islas' children do have foster parents, Skorupski said.

The agency has security measures in place for parents who are considered flight risks, Skorupski said. Islas was not considered a high-risk parent .
