Nevada judge McQuaid leaving post
U.S. Magistrate Judge Robert A. McQuaid Jr. will retire from the District of Nevada Reno in September.
Jake Herb, the district's chief deputy clerk, commended McQuaid for his "excellent service to the federal judiciary and to the community." McQuaid has been a federal judge for 16 years.
McQuaid graduated with a bachelor's degree from the University of Nevada, Reno, in 1968. He obtained his law degree in 1971 from Oregon's Willamette University College of Law and joined the State Bar of Nevada the same year, according to his official biography.
President Bill Clinton appointed McQuaid to the federal bench in 1996.
Applications are being accepted for the position that will open when McQuaid retires. They are due Dec. 22 and are available on the court's website at www.nvd.uscourts.gov.
