Officer hurt in North Las Vegas shooting released from hospital

The officer wounded by a shotgun-wielding man in North Las Vegas on Monday has been released from the hospital.

Officer Dwight Kuykendall, 36, was released Wednesday night, police said.

Kuykendall and officer Loran McAlister, 36, were among four officers called to a home at 6324 Silver Edge St., near Centennial Parkway and Clayton Street, about 10 p.m. Monday.

The family of Christopher Burcham, 25, notified police after the man started brandishing a gun during an argument. When officers arrived, he immediately fired on them, police said.

Kuykendall and McAlister returned fire. Burcham surrendered and was arrested on several felony charges, including two counts of attempted murder and one count of ex-felon in possession of a firearm.
