Officers fire at man wanted on child pornography charges

Las Vegas SWAT officers fired shots at a man wanted on child pornography charges Thursday morning.

The shooting happened about 10 a.m. after officers entered the man’s apartment in the 7100 block of Pirates Cove Road, near Westcliff Drive and Rainbow Boulevard.

Police said the man, whose name was not immediately disclosed, pointed a firearm at the officers. It was immediately unclear whether the man fired at officers. Neither police nor the suspect was injured.

Homicide section Capt. Brett Primas said SWAT was assisting a regional task force of officers from Las Vegas police, Henderson police and the FBI.

The SWAT officers waited outside the man’s apartment and ordered anyone inside the home to exit. There was no answer, and after 15 or 20 minutes the officers entered the home, Primas said.

As officers searched the apartment, the man emerged from a back bedroom and pointed a gun at them. Two officers fired an unknown number of shots at the man.

The man was being interviewed by detectives Thursday afternoon. His name and booking photo would be released later, police said.
