One of duo gets 10 to 25 years in prison for ‘mercy killing’

Waymond Jeter was sentenced last week to 10 to 25 years in prison in what he once told Las Vegas police was a mercy killing.

Jeter, 38, pleaded guilty in February to second-degree murder for shooting to death William Cybulski in August 2007. He was sentenced by District Judge Michelle Leavitt.

Jeter told police that he and co-defendant Jeremy Miello killed the 35-year-old mortgage broker for $5,000 because Cybulski believed he had a fatal illness and wanted help to end his life.

A friend found Cybulski's body on Aug. 25, 2007, at his house in the 7800 block of March Brown Avenue, near Durango Drive and Ann Road.

Police found research into cancers, assisted suicide and criminal poisoning on Cybulski's home computer. They also found a document titled "Will I go to hell if I kill myself" at his residence.

An autopsy revealed Cybulski was not fatally ill at the time of his death. Also, a few months before his death he had taken out a $500,000 life insurance policy on himself.

Miello, 32, pleaded guilty in February to voluntary manslaughter with use of a deadly weapon in the case and was sentenced to eight to 20 years.
