Embattled developer files lawsuit against former partners

Developer and gaming lobbyist Harvey Whittemore fired back at his former business partners Wednesday by filing his own multimillion-dollar lawsuit, accusing them of making death threats, racketeering and extortion. Whittemore is seeking $60 million from Thomas Seeno, Albert Seeno Jr., and Albert Seeno III, alleging they defrauded him through their partnership, which oversees the languishing Coyote Springs community and other companies.

Police officer wounded; beating death suspect killed

A man who shot and wounded a police detective Wednesday and was killed by officers’ return fire was a murder suspect with a lengthy criminal history, sources said. Jason Baires, 23, was a suspect in the beating death of a man Tuesday afternoon. He also had several prior convictions for possession of drugs and stolen goods, court records show.

Teens in paintball shooting spree sentenced to juvenile facilities

Two teenagers involved in a paintball shooting spree were confronted in court Tuesday by one of their victims: a 73-year-old Henderson man who relies on a pacemaker to keep his heart beating normally. Afterwards the were sentenced to juvenile facilities.

Police shoot knife-wielding man downtown

Police say a man was shot and seriously wounded Tuesday near the downtown area after he swung a knife at an officer. The man, who was in critical condition at University Medical Center, was jaywalking across Fremont Street. He ran into a motel when two officers in a patrol car stopped him. One officer followed him in.

73-year-old declared dead 25 years ago sentenced to probation

A 73-year-old man was sentenced to probation Tuesday and ordered to pay $90,000 in restitution after having lived 32 years under an assumed identity. Arthur Gerald Jones was declared dead 25 years ago.
