Parents won’t be charged in death of toddler crushed by oven

Authorities will not press charges against the parents of a toddler who died Sunday afternoon when an oven tipped over and crushed him, Las Vegas police said.

Elijah Giovanny Perea, 17 months old, was in an apartment at 4760 E. Charleston Blvd., near Nellis Boulevard, when he opened the oven door and stepped on it, causing the oven to tip over on top of him, officer Jay Rivera said.

The child was taken to University Medical Center, where he died.

"It was just a tragic accident," Rivera said.
