Pedestrian in critical condition after hit by van

A 21-year-old man was hospitalized with severe head injuries Wednesday after he was struck by a van.

North Las Vegas police said the collision happened about 11:15 a.m. at the intersection of Craig Road and Clayton Street.

Spokeswoman officer Chrissie Coon said the man was walking north as he crossed Craig when a minivan traveling south on Clayton made a left turn onto Craig. The van collided with the pedestrian, who was likely in a crosswalk, Coon said.

"We think he was in a crosswalk but we're investigating who had the right of way," she said.

The man was taken to University Medical Center in critical condition. Coon said the male driver of the minivan was not hurt. Alcohol and drugs were not factors, she said.

Craig Road was closed as police investigated.
