Police identify man arrested in slaying near Cosmopolitan

A man arrested on murder charges Monday in a fatal stabbing on the Strip was identified Tuesday.

Pedro Carlos Robledo, 28, was accused of stabbing Javier Medrano-Padilla, 21, multiple times during a fight about 2 a.m. outside The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas .

Police said the fight began after two groups of Hispanic men confronted each other on a walkway between The Cosmopolitan and Planet Hollywood.

According to Robledo's arrest report, he was caught on surveillance footage discarding a bloody kitchen knife near elevators on the outside of The Cosmopolitan.

Fibers from Medrano-Padilla's shirt matched those on the knife, the report said.

Detectives identified Robledo after a tip from a citizen, the report said.

During questioning from detectives, Robledo told detectives he acted "in self-defense."

He then said he did not remember anything because he blacked out from alcohol, the report said.

It was the second stabbing on the Strip in less than two weeks.

On June 25, Andres Elena, 21, was stabbed to death on a pedestrian walkway linking the MGM Grand and New York-New York.

Police responded to a call regarding several people fighting on the walkway shortly after 4 a.m.

Elena was taken to a hospital where he died of stab wounds to the chest. Victor Quijano, 25, was arrested in connection with Elena's death.
