Police say homeowner shot intruder in North Las Vegas

A 34-year-old man wanted on several warrants was shot during an attempted home invasion Thursday morning, North Las Vegas police said.

Police said Shunta Hilliard was hospitalized in serious condition after being shot by a 66-year-old homeowner on the 2400 block of Sunset Hills Court, near Ann Road and Simmons Street.

Police said Hilliard was shot while attempting to break in. The homeowner did not alert police.

But Hilliard left evidence of his injury at a second crime scene a half-mile away, police said.

A 31-year-old woman who lives on the 1700 block of Victoria Terrace Avenue told police someone kicked in her front door about 9 a.m. while she and her two children, ages 5 years and 3 weeks, were upstairs.

Police said Hilliard eventually received a ride to a hospital after he fled the Victoria Terrace home on foot.

Hilliard was wanted by the Metropolitan Police Department on four felony warrants.

He will remain in their custody while hospitalized.

North Las Vegas police said it was unknown Thursday night what charges Hilliard may face. They also said it's unknown whether the 66-year-old homeowner will face any charges in connection with the shooting.
