Police settle lawsuit with lawyer for $125,000

The Metropolitan Police Department's Fiscal Affairs Committee on Monday approved a six-figure settlement with a lawyer who alleged a Las Vegas police officer violated her civil rights.

The $125,000 settlement ends the federal lawsuit by Kristina Wildeveld, a veteran criminal defense lawyer who had sued the department and officer Richard Dean Goslar in June 2010.

According to the lawsuit, Wildeveld was on her way to court when motorcycle officer Goslar stopped her vehicle outside the Regional Justice Center in October 2008.

Goslar thought Wildeveld was going to make a U-turn at Clark and Third streets but stopped her before she made the turn, according to the document. The lawsuit alleged he confronted Wildeveld, grabbed her and injured her shoulder. Goslar issued her a traffic citation, which was dismissed.

In its response to the lawsuit, the Police Department said that the officer used a "reasonable degree of force" and that any Wildeveld injury "was a direct and proximate result of her own misconduct and actions."
