An 18-year-old student was arrested Tuesday morning at Sierra Vista High School after Clark County School District police said he had a weapon on the grounds of the Las Vegas school.
Police spokesman Lt. Ken Young said the incident occurred about 8 a.m. at the campus at 8100 W. Robindale Road, near Cimarron Road.
Young said Joseph Patella was booked into the Clark County Detention Center on one count of possession of a dangerous weapon on school property .
Young said police found a .22-caliber rifle and ammunition in the trunk of the student's vehicle. Police became aware of the weapon because Patella mentioned the gun to administrators . Patella told investigators he was target shooting Monday night .
