Robber shot by bartender dies

A man who was shot by a bartender after robbing a southwest Las Vegas bar has died, the Clark County coroner's office said.

Douglas Shaughnessy, 30, died Jan. 18 from multiple gunshot wounds stemming from the early morning robbery Jan. 13.

Police have said they will not press charges against the bartender, identified as Christopher Housley, 38.

Had he survived, Shaughnessy would have been charged with burglary with a deadly weapon, assault with a deadly weapon, possession of stolen property and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person. He was accused of walking into The Lodge at 5790 S. Fort Apache Road with a gun and demanding money from Housley.

Shaughnessy left the bar with $337. Housley followed him out of the business and told him to "drop it," according to Shaughnessy's arrest report. The bartender said Shaughnessy raised his arm. Fearing he would be killed, Housley fired a handgun several times. Video surveillance captured the shooting.

Shaughnessy was hit twice in the chest and once in his arm and hand. He was taken to University Medical Center in critical condition.
