Suspect arrested in slaying of man found dead in car

A man has been arrested on murder charges in the death of a man found in a car Monday.

Josue Nunez, 28, was arrested after police found him hiding in a shed in the 4000 block of Alameda Avenue, between Bonanza Road and Stewart Avenue. He was accused of shooting and killing Steven Roy Blair, 31, of Las Vegas.

Las Vegas police investigating a burglary call about 4:30 a.m. discovered Blair's body in a burgundy-colored car. He had been shot multiple times.

Police suspect Nunez killed Blair shortly after finding him asleep in his car outside a strip club.

Nunez was booked on charges of murder with a deadly weapon, robbery with a deadly weapon, burglary with a deadly weapon and kidnapping.

Police said Nunez had been wanted on a warrant for escaping house arrest.

According to Nunez's arrest report, he and Blair were believed to have been caught on surveillance video at the Chicas Bonitas strip club, 1818 Las Vegas Blvd. North, in North Las Vegas, about five miles southwest of where Blair's body was discovered.

The report said although the surveillance video was grainy, it appeared to show Nunez near Blair's car in the club's parking lot. Video also captured the car with its alarm going off.

Both Nunez and Blair also may have been captured on camera inside the club, the report said.

Personnel from the club gave police two 9 mm casings swept up from the parking lot earlier, the report said.

Two 9 mm casings were also found inside the car.

Police also have a recorded conversation between Nunez and his girlfriend, Jennifer Linares, on the jail phone system.

On Tuesday, Nunez's girlfriend was taken to police headquarters for questioning, the report said.

Although not forthcoming at first, Linares told investigators that Nunez went to a strip club late Sunday night and came home angry a few hours later because he had been kicked out.

Nunez told Linares that he wanted to go back to the club to confront the man who had kicked him out.

Nunez, Linares and her daughter then went to a strip club, which was not identified.

Linares told police she waited inside her car.

At one point, she heard what she believed to be people fighting in the club's parking lot but couldn't see anyone.

Linares said she then heard two gunshots.

She said she pulled her car toward Nunez, who was outside of a burgundy-colored car with its door ajar.

She said Nunez then yelled: "Leave! Go! Go! Go!" the report said.
