Teen mother arrested in baby death

A teenage mother in North Las Vegas has been arrested for child abuse after her newborn baby died last summer.

North Las Vegas police said the 16-year-old, who was not identified, was arrested Tuesday for child abuse with substantial bodily harm and child endangerment with substantial bodily harm.

Police said the woman's baby was born during the early morning of June 26. Evidence indicated the child was born alive, but needed medical attention, police said. No medical assistance was requested until 4:40 p.m., when the child was driven to University Medical Center. The child died shortly after arrival.

The baby's mother was booked at Clark County Juvenile Detention Center on Tuesday.
