Two Las Vegas teachers accused of soliciting sex from student

Two teachers were arrested Monday, accused of having sex with a 16-year-old Basic High School student, Henderson police said.

Bambi Dewey, 32, and John Stalmach, 31, were each booked at the Henderson Detention Center on charges of solicitation of a minor for sex.

Stalmach was booked also on a charge of sexual conduct between a teacher and a student.

Police said Dewey and Stalmach are a couple and had sex with the teen girl at their home in Henderson. Stalmach also had sex with the girl without Dewey, police said.

All of the recommended charges are felonies.

Dewey teaches at Brown Junior High School in Henderson, and Stalmach teaches at Dailey Elementary School in Las Vegas. Their status with the Clark County School District is unclear.

Stalmach also taught at Basic and Brown. Both Stalmach and Dewey were teachers at Brown when the girl was a student there. Police said the sex acts occurred between November 2011 and January.

Dewey is being held on $20,000 bond and Stalmach on $60,000 bond. They were scheduled to appear in Henderson Justice Court this morning.

Both were still listed on the jail's website Monday night.

In Nevada, it's a felony for anyone 21 or older and employed in a position of authority at a school to engage in sexual conduct with a student.

The crime is considered a category C felony if the student is 16 or 17, but it is a more serious category B felony if the student is 14 or 15.

Earlier in the year, there were a slew of arrests of adults who had inappropriate conduct with minors. In each case the adults held positions of authority.

On May 31, 43-year-old Albert S. Hernandez, a former Silverado High School varsity softball coach, was arrested by Clark County School District police on recommended charges of sex with a student and producing child pornography.

According to an arrest report, he had a relationship that lasted several months with a 17-year-old female team member.

His arrest came days after a youth soccer coach was arrested on charges of molesting one of his 13-year-old team members.

Marvin Geovanny Juarez, 35, was booked by Las Vegas police on four counts of lewdness with a minor under 14 .

On May 23, an Air Force ROTC adviser at Sunrise Mountain High School was arrested on charges of sexual misconduct with a student. A 17-year-old girl told police she was coerced into having sex with Lt. Col. Douglas Young, 49.
