Utah paraglider dies in Arizona Strip crash

KINGMAN, Ariz. - An experienced paraglider was killed during an attempted flight in the Arizona Strip on Saturday.

Mohave County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Trish Carter said Matt R. Lewis, 33, of Ivins, Utah, launched about 11 a.m. from the 4,000-foot summit of Joe Blake Hill, about 30 miles east of the Nevada border and five miles south of the Utah border.

Carter said Lewis crashed his paraglider into the side of the steep mountain face.

She said a helicopter was used to hoist the victim's body from the crash site, about 150 feet below the summit.
