Woman arrested in cellphone thefts

Las Vegas police arrested a third person in connection with a cellphone robbery ring in the southwest valley.

Heather Serenbetz, 20, was booked at the Clark County jail on 18 charges, including grand larceny, burglary and conspiracy to commit grand larceny.

Police said she drove the getaway vehicles during the robberies.

Authorities earlier this week arrested two men, Justin Profit, 18, and Joseph Neal Cardenas, 24, both of Las Vegas, in a string of more than 20 cellphone robberies.

The robbers would snatch phones from the hands of unsuspecting, distracted bystanders and run to a waiting vehicle. They typically stole iPhones but sometimes took iPad tablets.

The iPhones were targeted because they are easy to resell, police said.

Investigators think at least two crime rings were involved. The case was solved by officers in the Enterprise Area Command's problem-solving unit.

The investigation was ongoing.
