Woman arrested in taxi slaying; another wanted
Las Vegas police on Saturday said they have cracked a week-old homicide case and arrested a 21-year-old woman in connection to the shooting death of a taxi driver March 4.
Autumn Dawn Murry was booked into the Clark County Detention Center on Friday on one count of murder with use of a deadly weapon and two counts of armed robbery in connection with the slaying of Las Vegan Tesfaye Arze, 30.
Arze was found with a gunshot wound to his head early on March 4 in the 6300 block of High Sierra Avenue, near Mount Hood Street and Carey Avenue.
In a statement, a police spokesman said, "Investigators have determined Murry fired the shot which killed the victim outside of his cab."
Police are still looking for the other person who was in the cab, identified as Felicia Mosley, 18, of Las Vegas.
The key piece of evidence in the case was a security video released by police that showed two people in the taxi shortly before Arze was found. One appears to be Murry.
Early on in the investigation, police had asked for help identifying a young man and a woman who appeared in the video. The young man turned out to be Murry, who sports a boyish hair style.
Police have not released what, if anything, was taken during the alleged robbery.
A spokeswoman with the Nevada Taxicab Authority said Arze had been driving a cab for three months.
In recent years, cabdriver assaults have decreased drastically with since implementation of new safety procedures, including in-cab security cameras.
According to Taxicab Authority guidelines, drivers are required to attend an eight-hour training session before they receive a permit.
In that training they are instructed to always comply with demands of an assailant.
