Woman arrested, second suspect sought in NLV shooting

North Las Vegas police arrested a woman and are seeking a person they call her accomplice in a Thursday morning shooting that left two men dead and two women critically wounded.

Police said Ivonne Cabrera, 31, and a friend, known as "Smokey," went to a North Las Vegas home with the intent to kill.

About 6 a.m., the two broke in, and one or both of them shot all four people inside, police said.

"This was very brutal. It happened very quickly," Sgt. Tim Bedwell said. "We don't believe they were invited into the home. And ... they left immediately after the shootings."

Cabrera is being held in the North Las Vegas Detention Center on several charges, including two counts of murder and two counts of attempted murder.

Police are asking for the public's help in finding "Smokey," described as a Hispanic man in his mid- to late 20s, about 5 feet 6 inches tall and weighing about 130 pounds. He is thought to be bald or shaves his head.

He was seen with Cabrera in the past few weeks near the area of the shooting, on the 2000 block of Webster Street, near Lake Mead Boulevard and Civic Center Drive. Police think he lives near the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.

"People who know her will know him," Bedwell said.

The names of the four victims have not been released. Police said all four were between the ages of 24 and 27.

The two women are at University Medical Center recovering from gunshot wounds to the head and upper body, and Bedwell said police are hopeful they will survive.

Investigators aren't releasing some details of the shooting, including the motive and whether the victims lived at the residence. Bedwell said they're withholding that information until they arrest "Smokey."

The man should be considered armed and dangerous.

"A brutal homicide like this gets every bit of resource that we have in this police department," Bedwell said.

Anyone who knows Smokey or has information on his whereabouts is encouraged to call police at 633-9111 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 385-5555.
