Woman shot in arm, brother-in-law arrested, police say

An argument between a man and his sister-in-law Monday morning in northeast Las Vegas ended in gunfire, police said.

Police said the man, whose name was not released, shot the woman in the left arm. The two had been arguing in a home near Pecos Road and Carey Avenue about 10 a.m., Las Vegas police Lt. Patrick Charoen said.

She called police.

"When we arrived out there, that's when the shooting started," Charoen said.

Police were able to get the woman and her two children to safety. She was taken to a hospital.

Charoen said police surrounded the home because they were not sure whether the man was still inside.

Lt. Dan Zehnder said police discovered that a suspect had barricaded himself in the garage with a weapon. With the help of police dogs, the man was arrested at 3:15 p.m.
