The Metropolitan Police Department is asking witnesses who saw a fatal shooting Monday in the Historic Westside to come forward to help with the investigation.
The shooting occurred around 3 p.m. near the intersection of H Street and Owens Avenue, police said. A man in his 40s was pronounced dead and the man in his 50s is at University Medical Center, according to police.
At a briefing Monday evening, homicide Lt. Jason Johansson did not respond to a question to identify the business, but he said that police believed it to be a mental health facility that also did podcasting and recording.
Johansson said that both men “frequented the business” and knew each other, though police were not sure the nature of the relationship.
He said police are still early in the investigation, but added: “Within the next few hours, the complexion of this investigation will change greatly.”
Some witnesses who had been in the business at the time of the incident had stayed behind to be interviewed, Johansson said.
“We believe the parking lot has quite a few people in it at the time, before, during and after the shooting,” he said.
Johansson asked that anyone else with information contact the police. Those with any information is urged to contact Metro’s Homicide Section at 702-828-3521 or homicide@lvmpd.com. To remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at 702-385-5555,
“Las Vegas has always done a great job of providing this information so that we can solve our homicides, and I have no doubt that will come through in this case,” Johansson said.
