Las Vegas detectives investigate homicide on West Sahara

Updated October 3, 2021 - 7:01 pm

A gunman shot and killed another man who was quarreling with his mother and sister in central Las Vegas on Sunday, police said.

Homicide Lt. Ray Spencer said officers were called to the Indian Hills apartment complex in the 4500 block of West Sahara Avenue, which is near Arville Street, at 3:45 p.m. in response to reports that a man had been shot.

After police arrived, they found a man in his 30s suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The man was taken to University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Spencer said the man lived at the complex with his mother and sister. His mother gave him money this morning to go get a money order for rent, and he left the apartment around 7 a.m. but didn’t return until after 3 p.m., the lieutenant said.

”When he returned he appeared to be under the influence of drugs and intoxicated,” Spencer said. “He also did not have the rent money or the money order.“

A fight broke out between the man and his mother and sister, and Spencer said another man stepped in to tell the man not to speak to the women the way he was. The two men began fighting, and the suspect shot the victim multiple times.

Spencer said police did not know who gunman was or his relationship to the family.

Police did not provide any further information about the shooting.

Anyone with information about the shooting was urged to contact Crime Stoppers at 702-385-5555.
