Las Vegas police give details on officer-involved shooting during stabbing

A Las Vegas police official on Monday credited a sergeant with saving a life last week when she fatally shot a man who had stabbed a woman.
Metropolitan Police Department Sgt. Daniella Cino, 34, shot 30-year-old William Fuller outside an east valley apartment Wednesday night. Body camera footage released Monday shows Cino shooting Fuller after he had attacked the woman outside an apartment and begun running toward the officer with the knife.
“I believe Sgt. Cino acted bravely and decisively,” Metro Assistant Sheriff Brett Zimmerman said. “Her actions prevented a woman from being killed in a domestic violence incident.”
Police were called shortly after 9 p.m. Wednesday to an apartment complex at 5350 E. Tropicana Ave., near Boulder Highway.
“He’s cutting her up,” a woman told a dispatcher in a 911 call. “You need to send somebody out here now.”
Cino can be heard in body camera footage shouting at Fuller, who was covered in blood, to drop the knife and get off the woman.
About 20 seconds passed between the time Cino opened the door of her patrol vehicle to the time she fired two shots. Fuller died at Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center.
Four children who were home were unharmed, police said.
Zimmerman said the woman and Fuller have children together. Police suspect Fuller and the woman may have been separating.
The woman, who has not been identified, was taken to Sunrise Hospital for treatment. She is in good condition and has spoken to investigators, Zimmerman said.
Fuller had no criminal history, Zimmerman said, and police had no recent contact with him.

String of shootings
Wednesday's shooting was the fourth in a string of five shootings in the Metropolitan Police Department's jurisdiction since Aug. 4.
The most recent police shooting for the department happened Saturday, when officer Bryon Bunitsky, 47, shot a security guard who was shooting at police outside a Ross Dress for Less store on the 4000 block of Blue Diamond Road, near South Valley View Boulevard.
The man had opened fire at his manager inside the store after an argument, police said. He then left the store and shot at arriving officers.
Police called the shooting an isolated act of workplace violence. No one inside was injured.
