Stacee Etcheber, a mother and a hair stylist from Novato, California, is among the victims killed at the Route 91 Harvest country music festival, the San Francisco Police Department confirmed Oct. 3.
Etcheber, 50, was with her husband Vinnie, a San Francisco police officer, at the Las Vegas music festival, according to a statement from San Francisco Police Chief William Scott.
“With heavy hearts, the San Francisco Police Department today mourns the passing of Stacee Etcheber,” Scott said in the statement posted on the department’s Facebook page. “Stacee was taken in a senseless act of violence as her husband, SFPD Officer Vinnie Etcheber, heroically rushed to aid shooting victims in Las Vegas on Sunday. Stacee was a beloved mother of two young children and a well-loved hair stylist in Marin County. As we grieve, we ask the public to keep the Etcheber family in their thoughts, along with all the victims of this tragic incident.”
A funeral mass for Etcheber is set for 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary’s Cathedral in San Francisco. A private burial will follow.
“They’re distraught beyond belief,” San Francisco Police Officer Association President Martin Halloran said of the Etcheber family. “They’re trying to wrap their minds around this, Stacee and 57 other victims being murdered in cold blood. It’s going to take time for them to grieve and their lives are never going to be the same.”
Stacee Etcheber lived in Novato, California, with her husband, Vinnie, and their children Alivia Jo and Vincent Jean. She is also survived by her parents Greg Rodrigues, Linda French-Rodrigues and Annella Jo Keen and Jim Keen, and two brothers and a sister, according to her obituary.
The GoFundMe account the San Francisco Police Officer Association set up for the Etcheber children had collected $279,435 as of Wednesday morning. The funds are meant to support the children’s therapy as they process their grief, and their future educational costs, Halloran said.
Etcheber worked at the Ciao Bella Salon in Novato, California. She had more than 20 years’ experience as a master stylist, and a loyal clientele, according to a brief biography on the salon’s website.
Etcheber’s brother-in-law, Al Etcheber, posted on Facebook Monday morning that Stacee Etcheber had been missing since Sunday night’s shooting. He wrote that Stacee Etcheber wasn’t carrying her phone or identification, and asked for anyone who had seen her to contact him. Tuesday morning, Etcheber wrote on Facebook that Stacee Etcheber had died.
“Please pray for our family during this difficult time. She leaves behind two adoring beautiful children and an amazing husband,” Al Etcheber wrote. “Thank you to everyone for all the support in the past few days. We will dearly miss you.”
Etcheber’s body was transported with a Henderson Police Department uniformed transport from Hites Funeral Home in Henderson to McCarran International Airport on Sunday. Etcheber’s family and a San Francisco Police Department Honor Guard were waiting on the tarmac at San Francisco International Airport when the Southwest Airlines jet carrying Etcheber’s body touched down on Sunday.
