Man dies after shooting at Las Vegas apartment complex

Updated December 18, 2017 - 6:40 am

Las Vegas police are investigating a Monday morning death at a central valley apartment complex.

Police responded about 12:45 a.m. to reports of a man suffering multiple gunshot wounds at an apartment complex in the 3600 block of Villa Knolls North Drive, near Tropicana Avenue and Pecos Road, Metropolitan Police Lt. Dan McGrath said.

Residents at the apartment complex heard several gunshots, he said, but no one called police until someone found the man on the ground.

“It doesn’t matter where you live — if you hear gunshots, please call the police,” McGrath said. “Unfortunately we probably could have been here a little earlier, probably 20 minutes earlier at least.”

Police found the man’s backpack and a bicycle at the scene. It’s unclear whether the man lived in the area, McGrath said.

The Clark County coroner’s office will release the identity of the man, who was in his 40s, after his next of kin is notified.

His death marks the 212th homicide Metro has investigated this year, and the 243rd investigated within Clark County.
