Man shot to death at apartments near Nellis Air Force Base

Las Vegas police are investigating a homicide near Las Vegas Boulevard North and Nellis Boulevard, near Nellis Air Force Base, Thursday morning.

A very “dynamic” call came in about 5 a.m. that a shooting had taken place at the Cohiba Court apartments in the 4300 block of Las Vegas Boulevard North, police spokesman Laura Meltzer said.

The initial call came in as a family disturbance, Capt. Jason Letkiewicz said.

Another person was called to help a female in the initial family disturbance, he said.

When the male suspect showed up, a fight began between him and the male victim. The victim, possibly in his mid-20s to early 30s, was later shot and found dead at the scene, Letkiewicz said.

The shooting happened just outside of the apartment, he said.

Several people have been detained in connection with the incident, Meltzer said. She didn’t know whether they were witnesses or suspects.

Northbound and southbound traffic on Las Vegas Boulevard North was blocked near Craig Road for a time but the street has reopened.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
