North Las Vegas police arrest man in girlfriend’s shooting death

A suspect has been arrested in the fatal shooting of a 37-year-old woman Wednesday in North Las Vegas.

Police have identified 26-year-old Toby Lara as a suspect in the death of Cynthia Alden. Police said Lara was Alden’s boyfriend.

Her death was ruled a homicide by the Clark County coroner’s office. She died of a gunshot wound to her head.

Officers were called at 2:35 p.m. Wednesday to the 3200 block of Lillis Avenue, where arriving officers found Alden unresponsive outside a home. She died at the scene, police said.

The initial investigation put Lara outside the Lillis Avenue home with Alden, police said in a statement. Witnesses told police the couple were arguing just before the shooting.

Lara was taken into custody Thursday evening on the 4500 block of Sampson Drive. He is being held at the Las Vegas Detention Center on one count of murder with a deadly weapon.

Anyone with information about the shooting or Lara may call the North Las Vegas Police Department at 702-633-9111 or Crime Stoppers at 702-385-5555.
