A man who “feared for his life” shot and killed a would-be robber who tried to take his cell phone and wallet at gunpoint early Saturday, Henderson police said.
Around 3:47 am, officers and the Henderson Fire Department were dispatched to the 1000 block of Wellness Place, near Gibson Road and Galleria Drive, where several shots were heard, police said.
According to a news release issued by the Henderson Police Department on Saturday, an initial investigation determined that one man armed with a gun confronted a 33-year-old man and demanded his phone and wallet.
The 33-year-old man then pulled his gun and shot the man who was trying to rob him, police said.
“The 33-year-old male discharged multiple rounds from his firearm and struck the unknown male, due to him fearing for his life,” the news release said.
Paramedics attempted to save the man who was shot, but he ultimately died at the scene.
The 33-year-old man wasn’t injured.
The incident was being investigated as a homicide, police said, adding that it was the sixth homicide in Henderson in 2024.
Neither man’s identity was released by police Saturday. The Clark County coroner’s office was expected to release the dead man’s identity.
