A Clark County School District spokesperson said Medina last attended a district school in February 2017, as a junior at Rancho High School.

When officers were requested at 10:30 p.m. Saturday to investigate a possible crash near Civic Center Drive and Evans Avenue, they found Medina behind the wheel of a white pickup truck suffering from a gunshot wound. Police said he had crashed into a tree in the center median after he was shot.

North Las Vegas homicide investigators have said a dark-colored sedan was seen pulling up next to Medina’s vehicle before the shooting.

Police said Medina and the other driver “spoke briefly” before gunfire was exchanged. It wasn’t immediately clear whether the two knew each other.

It remained unclear Tuesday how Medina obtained a gun.

Homicide detectives seek the public’s help in this case. Anyone with information may call the department at 702-633-9111 or Crime Stoppers at 702-385-5555.

A GoFundMe has been created to assist with Medina’s funeral costs.
