Man hospitalized after barricading southwest Las Vegas home

Updated February 4, 2018 - 4:33 pm

A suicidal man was hospitalized for evaluation Sunday after barricading himself in his southwest valley home for more than 13 hours, Las Vegas police said.

Metropolitan Police Department officers were called about 11:45 p.m. Saturday to a home on the 7300 block of Arrowrock Avenue, near South Rainbow Boulevard and Starr Avenue. Metro Lt. Nate Chio said a suicidal man armed with multiple guns barricaded himself inside the home.

Police dispatch logs show officers were requested to the same home again shortly after 4 a.m. for reports of an illegal shooting, but details surrounding the shooting weren’t immediately available.

At about 1:30 p.m., Lt. Grant Rogers confirmed the man came out of the home and was being transported to a hospital for evaluation.

Houses in the surrounding area were evacuated while police worked to take the man into custody.
