Delivery driver might have been lured to area where he was attacked

A Chinese food delivery driver might have been lured to an area in the central Las Vegas Valley before being attacked by five men Monday night.

The driver, who is an employee of China Joe’s Express, 1350 E. Flamingo Road, near Maryland Parkway, arrived in the area of Desert Inn Road and Oneida Way to make a delivery about 8:20 p.m., but couldn’t find the address, police said.

The person who ordered the food updated the delivery location and flagged the driver down nearby in the 1300 block of Sombrero Drive, according to Metro officer Michael Rodriguez.

The caller, described by Metro as a black adult male, took the food before four other black adult males emerged from an alley. The men took the driver’s wallet, struck him in the back of the head with what is believed to be a gun, kicked him several times and then fled in his vehicle.

The driver got a ride from a passerby who took him back to the restaurant. He had nonlife-threatening injuries, but medics took him to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center.

The delivery vehicle is described as a white 2014 Toyota Corolla, Rodriguez said.
