Food delivery driver attacked, car stolen in southeast valley

A delivery driver was attacked, and his car was stolen in the southeast valley Monday night.

The driver was making a food delivery about 8:20 p.m. near East Desert Inn Road and South Maryland Parkway when he was jumped by at least one person and hit in the head, Metropolitan Police Department Lt. Troy Barrett said.

After the man was “battered,” the person or people responsible took off in the man’s car, Barrett said. The man had nonlife-threatening injuries, but medics took him to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center.

As of 9:30 p.m. police were still working on gathering details, including whether the suspect or suspects were armed, but Barrett said it was difficult because the man primarily spoke Mandarin Chinese, and Metro was still working to get a translator.

A description of the man’s stolen vehicle wasn’t immediately available.

The man was working for a restaurant on the 1300 block of East Flamingo Road, on the northeast corner of Maryland, Barrett said. It’s unclear if he made the delivery before the attack.
