Henderson police need help identifying hammer attacker

Police are asking for the public’s help in finding a would-be robber who hit a man in the face with a hammer in Henderson.

The attempted robbery happened about 5:20 a.m. on Aug. 18 outside of Shakespeare’s Grille and Pub at 790 Coronado Center Drive, near Eastern Avenue, the Henderson Police Department said.

A man and woman were standing in the business parking lot when another man approached them, hit the first man in the face with a hammer and demanded his property. Police said the injured man grabbed a gun. The attacker then dropped the hammer and ran away without taking any property.

Officer Scott Williams said the victim suffered a broken nose and damaged left eye socket, as well as a cut above his eye. He never fired his gun.

Police described the assailant as a Hispanic man between 5 feet 8 inches and 5 feet 11 inches tall, weighing between 150 and 180 pounds. Williams said the man wore black clothes and a blue mask.
