Las Vegas police say gunman robbed South Point sports book Super Bowl Sunday

The man arrested in connection with the armed robbery on Super Bowl Sunday at the South Point sports book almost made off with $58,000, according to an arrest report.

Metropolitan Police Department officers responded to the hotel, 9777 Las Vegas Blvd. South, just before 9:20 p.m. Sunday after a South Point security officer reported that a robbery suspect was in custody.

The sports book manager told police a man walked behind the counter, demanded money, and handed the manager a black plastic garbage bag. A semi-automatic handgun was pointed at the manager as the man loaded $58,616 from the registers into the bag, according to the arrest report.

A silent alarm was activated during the robbery, and South Point security found Israel Jackson, 32, in the hotel. He was taken into custody without incident shortly afterward by several hotel security officers in the valet area, police said.

While in custody, Jackson told responding Metro officers that “he did the robbery because he had kids and needed the money,” according to the arrest report. He also asked police if he could apologize to the victim.

All of the stolen money has been returned to the sports book.

Jackson was booked into the Clark County Detention Center on Monday, and his charges include robbery with a deadly weapon and burglary with a firearm.

The Silverton sports book was robbed at gunpoint Jan. 24, but police don’t know whether the incidents are related.
